West Algarve

Continuing west from Alvor the next main resort on the southern coast is the cosmopolitan town of Lagos probably the best known of the western Algarve resorts. It is a walled town with a natural harbour, has some great beaches and is rich with the history of Henry the Navigator. Journeying further west to Sagres along the way there are many coastal villages of differing sizes but all with fantastic beaches! At the most south-westerly point of the Algarve is the village of Sagres and Cape St. Vincent. Here the landscape and the coastline become more rugged, Sagres is different from many other coastal towns as it is less commercialized and has fewer hotels and restaurants. It is popular with independent travelers and surfers. As a region there are great beaches with plenty of watersports on offer, golf courses and plenty of opportunities to explore the wild and rugged countryside of the west Algarve all around. The climate is cooler here but again by small margins, the breezes are more invigorating and ocean more refreshing!
