The weekend of 29th November to 1st December saw Aljezur once again host its now famous Sweet Potato Festival.
This year’s event featured the usual festivities of local music, cooking and all sorts of products from the surrounding area as well as other parts of the Algarve and Alentejo, as far east as São Brás de Alportel.
Local produce included the customary honey, meat and dairy products, clothes and textiles, as well as machinery and vehicles from the agricultural industry. Also on display, a wide selection of wines produced from all across the Algarve.
As ever, many options for experimenting the local cuisine were on offer. For the casual eater, there were vans and stalls offering organic burgers, pancakes and sandwiches. The food hall offered a large variety of local restaurants and associations offering “petiscos” and meals, originating from the fields to the sea. Most of the outlets provided vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options meaning there was delicious local food available for everyone.
We can also recommend the sweet potato beer!
